The Bowen Technique:

The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that is applied using very gentle pressure. Using thumbs and fingers on precise points of the body to perform Bowen’s unique sets of rolling-type moves, the technique works by stimulating the connective tissue of the body.   There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue involved and no force is used or needed to achieve change.  The experience of a treatment is gentle, subtle and relaxing.  It is believed that the Bowen Technique prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself and clients report the experience of pain relief, improvement of function and recovery of energy.   The Bowen Technique is suitable for adults, children, babies (including newborn) and the elderly.   An appointment will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour and is best performed directly on skin but can be done through light clothing.  Four to five treatments at weekly intervals are often sufficient to achieve lasting relief, although further treatments may be required.  It is recommended that other therapies are not mixed with the Bowen Technique e.g. massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy.   The Bowen Technique aims to balance the whole person, not just the symptoms.  Practically any problem can potentially be addressed and some people use the Bowen Technique as a means of stress management and health maintenance, seeing their therapist regularly 2-4 times a year.
