About Me:
I have been a registered osteopath since 1994, specialising in osteopathy and cranial osteopathy for adults, children and babies.
Since graduating from the College of Osteopaths, I have run my own practice in London and Totnes, and have been teaching osteopathy with the European School and the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy, in the UK and abroad since 2002.
More Information:
I treat people of all ages who present with a wide variety of conditions such as back pain, joint pain and other physical complaints. I use a range of osteopathic techniques from gentle cranial osteopathy for adults, children and babies, to more active techniques depending on the patient’s needs.
I cannot claim to diagnose, treat nor cure any condition, however, The General Council of Osteopaths (GOsC) website explains what osteopathy is:
“Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.
To an osteopath, for your body to work well, its structure must also work well. So osteopaths work to restore your body to a state of balance, where possible without the use of drugs or surgery. Osteopaths use touch, physical manipulation, stretching and massage to increase the mobility of joints, to relieve muscle tension, to enhance the blood and nerve supply to tissues, and to help your body’s own healing mechanisms.”
What I enjoy most about practising osteopathy is that I can support the body to find its own balance. I might be working with physical strains or injuries, yet the treatment can have a surprisingly calming and relaxing effect on the nervous system and therefore on mood and sense of wellbeing.
I like to include the patient in their journey back to health, looking at ways to support the body’s function and noting the effects of posture and lifestyle habits to promote health and prevent symptoms recurring.
I am happy to discuss whether osteopathy is right for you.
